What are epoxy floors?

Have you ever needed a floor that’s durable, secure, easy to take care of and fantastic? Epoxy floors are the solution you want. There is a good probability that many have not heard about an epoxy floor earlier, so we have collected everything you want to know. Epoxy flooring is a flooring concrete surface made up of multiple epoxy layers applied to floors in depths not less than two millimeters. The difference between an epoxy coating and an epoxy floor is the epoxy bottom. As said earlier, an epoxy floor should be at least two millimeters in thickness. Any epoxy that’s not at least two millimeters is known as an epoxy coating.

You might be asking yourself what an epoxy is? Epoxy is a system made of two components-hardeners and resins. A mixture of hardener and resin reacts to produce a plastic material that’s resistant, durable and bonding well with its substrate. Epoxy floors are so reliable in demanding industrial environments than any other concrete floor coatings.

Types of epoxy floorings

There are many types of epoxy flooring. They include;

1. Dispersing epoxy floors -a big deck used in areas of heavy use and high traffic.

2. Dispersing epoxy floors made of quartz sand- Has excellent anti-slip properties.

3. Self-leveling floors- Easy to maintain and clean. They are so popular in dining rooms and kitchens than any other coatings.

4. Mortar epoxy – Strongest of all epoxy floors. Excellent for crack repairs before lying a new epoxy floor.

5. Graveled floors- Most decorative of all epoxy floors, most complicated floor and have a good anti-slip characteristic.

6. Terrazzo epoxy floors- used in large spaces and also for decorating purposes.

7. Antistatic floors used in sensitive areas where there is no static presence in the surrounding.

8. Epoxy flaked- Have colored flakes and chips in the epoxy for decoration. The chips provide a rough surface that gives better anti-slip property. Mix chips that have different colors in any combination of your liking.

Epoxy floors are used mainly in garages. The floor appearance tends to raise a lot of questions concerning energy and time used to coat and maintain the garage. Whether you have epoxy coatings for the basement, garage, sunroom, pole barn and porch, the usage and maintenance are the same. For harder applications use the items below;

• For vehicle drippings or minor spills, wipe with a soft cloth or proper towel.

• Achieve maintenance is cleaning with a commercial mob or soft broom.

• Cleaning large epoxy floor, sweep away loose debris and mop floor using a thick mop, clear ammonia, and hot water.

• Some stains like dust require scrubbing with a kitchen pad. If hot water cannot remove the stain, use soft scrub. Don’t use abrasive chemicals or other comet materials on floor coating.

• If needed, the epoxy floor is squeegeed and hosed out.

• Place a mouse pad under the motorcycle kickstand to curtail floor damage to the coating surface.
