Concrete Polishing Advantages and its Different Levels

Concrete polishing is referred to the grinding and polishing of concrete floors with the help of a grinding tool. This grinding tool consists of grits of diamonds and diamond polishing pads.  Concrete floors below 100 grits are considered to be unpolished.  The polishing of concrete floors is a good and sustainable option when compared to replacement of floors. It is said that these floorings take your buildings towards a more green solution.

The polishing of concrete floors can also be compared with the sanding of wood.  There can be various level of polishing concrete. At each level, you could decide the level of smoothness and shine you desire on your floor. There are four main levels of concrete polishing, and each of them is:

  • Level 1- Flat level

This level is attained when the grinding tool is stopped at 100- grit bond. At this level, the shine and smoothness in the floor are least, and you will not be able to see the reflection of the light on the floor.

  • Level 2- Satin level

At this level, the grinding is stopped after achieving 400- grit bond.  There is a low sheen finish on the floor, and the overhead reflection can be seen from the distance of approximately 80 feet. There is a low luster in the floor giving it a matte look.

  • Level 3- Semi-polished level

This is that level in concrete polishing where the polish is done up to 800- grit resin bond. As the name suggest, this floor is semi polished having a higher sheen as compared to the second level.  You could see a good reflection of light on the floor.

  • Level 4- highly polished level

At this level, the grinding is done up to 3000- grit bonds with special polishing pads. According to its name, this level has a high degree of shine and polish. It gives a look of granite or marble. You could easily spot your reflection on the floor while standing on the floor. It reflects the light perfectly making the room look bigger and brighter.

After the polishing process, the level of polishing can also be measured on the basis of gloss level. Higher the gloss higher will be the polishing level.  Concrete polishing is useful in many sectors especially in commercial sectors such as schools, offices, clinics and hospitals and other commercial and industrial sectors.

  • Easy to clean- as these floors have a high finish and are smooth they do not let the dust particles stick to the floor making it easy to clean.

  • Resistance to moisture and chemicals- these floors do not let the moisture and chemicals to enter them making them safe and strong.

The concrete polishing can be said as the best flooring alternative especially for commercial purpose as these are strong, durable, and attractive yet cost effective.
